Clay taught me something I’m now studying in my counseling program: slowing down and being creative can quiet a busy mind. This is a small corner of the site for that. Take a breath, try something here, and come back whenever you need a moment.
A one-minute reset: box breathing
- Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of 4.
- Hold gently for 4.
- Breathe out through your mouth for 4.
- Hold for 4, then repeat three or four rounds.
Grounding when everything feels like too much
Try the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise. Notice:
- 5 things you can see
- 4 things you can touch
- 3 things you can hear
- 2 things you can smell
- 1 thing you can taste
Mindful moments with everyday objects
You don't need a pottery wheel to practice. Next time you hold your morning mug, pause before the first sip. Feel its weight and warmth, notice the glaze and the little imperfections, and take three slow breaths. Small rituals like this are an easy way to come back to the present.
Gentle reminders
- It's okay to rest before you're exhausted.
- Progress isn't a straight line, and neither is healing.
- You're allowed to start over, at any age.
- Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.
